De maaidraad wordt door UV licht in ongeveer drie jaar afgebroken. De warmte zet het afbraakproces op de bodem voort. Uiteindelijk duurt het complete proces, dat eindigt met de absorptie door micro-organismen, vijf tot tien jaar.\r\n\r\nOregon heeft de draad een natuurlijke kleur gegeven, waardoor het goed wordt opgenomen in de natuurlijke omgeving.
